Welcome to Heights Grocery!

First, a little history lesson. For generations, the old Grange Hall on Vashon Island has been a gathering place for the community – and it still is today.  It is also, famously, King County's one-and-only landmarked Grange Hall - huzza! – which ensures its preservation for generations to come. Once home to the Vashon-Maury Island Grange, the hall has played an important role in the island’s agrarian history.

Now it’s entering its next act. We're restoring it into Heights Grocery: a store with a year-round farmers market featuring Vashon Island Growers Association farmers and a cozy coffee shop for folks to gather. Heights Grocery is being built by a family that calls Vashon Island home. This isn't a chain and it isn't a stranger's investment. It's neighbors building something for neighbors.

With less than 5% of Vashon's food grown locally, and no year-round grocery on the Northend, picking up a carton of eggs can mean a long drive. This project turns a piece of our island's history into a place we can count on.

Thank you to everyone who's given so far — through GoFundMe, a check, or a conversation. Every gift is going straight into the old hall's walls, the new roof, and the wiring waiting to be run. We still need to raise $200,000 for structural support and interior build-out. To date, we've been awarded $65,000 from 4Culture, with more grant applications underway. Fingers crossed!

VIGA and Heights Grocery share a mission: keeping local food and local farmers at the heart of the community. Once open, Heights Grocery will proudly feature VIGA's growers and accept Farm Bucks right at the register, so the dollars you give today will help build a store that puts money straight back into the hands of island farmers. This partnership also means donations go directly toward restoring this newly landmarked treasure and bringing a grocery store and gathering space to the Northend.
